Seasonal Inspiration & Local Life
Bring the Spirit of the Scarecrow Walk Into Your Own Welcome
A community display can spark an original decorating idea: a few well-chosen seasonal details that belong to your home, restaurant, or hotel.

A Local Idea Worth Celebrating
The Washington County Water Conservancy District describes the Scarecrow Walk & Haunted Canyon at Red Hills Desert Garden as a display of scarecrows made by residents and businesses. That invitation to let many people contribute is a lovely starting point for seasonal design: a space can feel memorable because it has a point of view.
The transferable idea is personal expression, rather than copying an individual display. A restaurant, hotel, or home can tell its own small autumn story through color, texture, and one welcoming focal point. The result does not need to fill the whole room to be noticed.
Choose a Focal Point That Fits Your Space
For a hotel lobby, an original concept might begin with a console near the seating area: natural pumpkins, an earthy ceramic vessel, and a loose branch arrangement. A restaurant could carry the palette into a modest host-stand display and a few coordinated table accents. At home, a doorway or dining sideboard may be enough.
Keep the scale connected to how people use the room. Guests should still have space to sit, talk, and move comfortably. Materials, lighting, the existing furnishings, and the practical needs of the venue all belong in the design conversation—not just the holiday theme.
Let the Next Season Build on What You Love
It can help to begin with pieces you already own. A favorite bowl, linen, or collection of ornaments gives the arrangement a personal starting point. From there, discuss what should stay, what could change, and which materials would make the room feel ready for the occasion.
Amy Surena Designs welcomes conversations about seasonal decorating, tablescapes, and hospitality spaces in St. George and Southern Utah. If a local celebration has given you an idea for your own place, bring the feeling you loved. We would like to help develop an original version that belongs to you.
